Efdal Altun

Efdal Altun

Born in 1970 in Ankara, Efdal Altun graduated from the viola department of the H.Ü. Ankara State Conservatory in 1992 as a student of Professor Koral Çalgan. During his student days, from 1990 to 1992, Altun performed in many chamber music concerts as a member of the Ganiev Quartet founded by the famous Azerbaijan State Artist Server Ganiev. From 1990 to 1992 he has given many concerts in Anatolia Chamber Orchestra as a group leader. From 1992 to 1998, Altun worked as both an academician and musician in the Viola Department of Eskişehir Anadolu University's State Conservatory. From 1999 to 2008, he worked in the Viola and Violin Department of I.T.U Turkish Music State Conservatory.

Throughout his career, Altun has given many concerts in Turkey and overseas as a soloist, performing with the Ankara University Chamber Orchestra, the Mersin Chamber Orchestra, the MIAM (Müzik İleri Araştırmalar Merkezi) Chamber Orchestra, the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra, the Eskişehir Municipality Symphonic Orchestra, the Eskişehir Academy Symphonic Orchestra, the Çukurova State Symphonic Orchestra and the Istanbul State Symphonic Orchestra. Altun has also performed as a member of numerous orchestras such as the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, the Pommersfelden Symphonic Orchestra (as group leader), Das Treffen Opera (as Principal), the Macedonia Philharmonic Orchestra, the International Turkish Symphonic Orchestra, the Istanbul State Symphonic Orchestra and the Presidential Symphonic Orchestra. In 2006, he gave a chamber music concert, organized by the I.T.Ü. Foundation for Scholarship Campaign, with world-renowned violinist Alexander Markov.

In 2007, Altun received his Master's degree. He has been a member of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997. In addition to being a member of the Borusan String Quartet Efdal Altun is performing with an 1725 Tetore viola which is provided by the Borusan Center for Culture and Arts.
