Georgia Xagara

Georgia Xagara is principal harp of the State Orchestra of Athens, Greece. She began her studies on the harp at the age of 12, with Maria Bildea, at the State Conservatoire of Thessaloniki and then at Atheaneum, with the same teacher. She took her diploma with the highest marks and distinction in 1998. Parallely, she studied theatre in the Department of Fine Arts of Aristotles’ University of Thessaloniki. A scholarship by the State enabled her to continue her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, with Eira Lynn Jones.

She has been member of both the State Youth and State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, and acted as principal harp with all major Greek Orchestras. As a soloist, she has collaborated with La Camerata, the State Orchestra of Athens, the City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra and smaller ensembles. Georgia currently teaches at “Ph. Nakas” Conservatoire and at the Conservatory of Athens and she has been tutor of harp at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki for more than 8 years.
