Ilias Sdoukos

Ilias Sdoukos, viola (Greece)

Ilias Sdoukos, of Greek-Czech origin, was born in Athens (Greece) in 1974. He studied violin with Y. Tzoumanis (principal violinist with the Athens State Orchestra) at the Athens Conservatory and viola with Y. Vatikiotis (principal violist with the Athens State Orchestra) at the Hellenic Conservatory. He graduated in 1997 with an A grade and continued with Sven Arne Tepl (Utrecht string quartet) at the "FOLKWANG HOCHSCHULE ESSEN" in Essen (Germany), with a scholarship from the "ALEXANDROS ONASSIS FOUNDATION". He graduated in June 2000 with the first grade. He was principal violist of the University's orchestra for two years and principal violist of Deutsche Kammerakademie am Neuss for several concerts.

As a soloist, he has appeared in Germany, Austria, Iceland, Australia, Cyprus, Turkey, Niger, Mali and in many cities of Greece. ("Sinfonia concertante" by W.A. Mozart with the National Opera Orchestra in Athens, "Climax under control" by M.C. Krithara commissioned by the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and conducted by T. Antoniou, "Trauermusic" by P. Hindemith conducted by A. Myrat, Bartok viola concerto in Athens Concert Hall conducted by M. Logiades).

He was a member of Symphony Orchestras in the state of Athens such as: "The Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra" and the "Orchestra of Colors" (founded by M. Hatzidakis). He has collaborated as a soloist with the Greek Composers Union (since 2000), and the Orchestra of Colors (since 2004). He was a member of the +Kinisis quartet and Sinfonietta orchestra of Chania (Honorary Concertmaster).

Since January 2001, he has been holding the principal viola position in the Orchestra of the "National Opera of Greece".
