Musica Vitae
Chamber Orchestra Musica Vitae
Concert Master Dorota Siuda

The Latin name Musica Vitae – Music of Life – in itself says a lot of what the orchestra stands for: defendingand developing live string music for future generations of listeners.

Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra boasts over three decades of music making. Firmly rooted in the classical western string repertory the orchestra’s 15 musicians have over the course of these decades brought music from near and far to their audience.

Classical as well as contemporary chamber music is presented, and to date the orchestra has premiered some 150 new works, written by established and famed composers as well as by students at Sweden’s university colleges of music. Vital parts of Musica Vitae’s activities are collaborations with various art forms outside of the traditional realms of western art music thereby attracting new audiences, and playing for young people, something which has brought string music to thousands upon thousands of school children.

Many a prominent soloist and conductor have worked with Musica Vitae and the orchestra has spent many an hour touring both in Sweden and abroad. Their extensive travelling has brought them not only to almost every nook and cranny of their home region, but also to big concert venues in China, USA, Greece and Spain to name but a few countries visited. They are also recurring guests at chamber music festivals in Sweden as well as on the Continent.

Musica Vitae have recorded some 20 CDs, two of which were Swedish Grammy nominees. The orchestra can be heard on national radio and TV on a regular basis and is also on the Internet on YouTube and Facebook.

Musica Vitae is part of the cultural institution Musik i Syd, whose aim it is to serve as a hub for the music scene in Southern Sweden.
