Paul Kim, violin (Korea)

Praised as a "brilliant young violinist" by Ensemble-Music & Vision Magazine, Mr. Kim was the recipient of the Jascha Heifetz Scholarship from the Indiana University School of Music, the J. C. Hulsteyn award from the Peabody Conservatory, and the Hulvik Development Fund from the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, he was featured in the WQXR radio station in New York and the NBC channel. In Korea, he has been featured in the editions of the Strad, and the Strings & Bow magazines.

Mr. Kim started his violin studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain and furthered his education at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Peabody Conservatory, and Indiana University. At Indiana University, he led the Philharmonic Orchestra and worked at the same time as concertmaster of the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra in Indiana.

In the past, Mr. Kim participated at various festivals including the Sarasota Music Festival, Banff Chamber Music Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the National Arts Center Young Artists Program with Pinchas Zukerman. Mostly recently, he was invited to the Euro Music Festival in Wuppertal, Germany, Vianden International Music Festival in Luxembourg, Music Niagara in Canada and Music Fest Perugia in Italy where he is the director of the chamber music program.

As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with artists such as Kolja Blacher, Wolfram Christ, Ilana Vered, Dang Thai Son and Ik Kwan Bae and also was the second violinist of the Quartet 21 from 2008 to 2013. As a soloist, he has appeared with conductors such as Edmon Colomer, Lutz Koehler, Nicolas Milton, Christoph Poppen and Uriel Segal.

In 2010, he made his debut with the philharmonic orchestras of Bucheon and Cheongju in S. Korea, and in the previous seasons he appeared as a soloist with the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra and the An Die Musik Philharmonia.

His teachers include Mauricio Fuks, Martin Beaver and Jacques Israelievitch. Currently, he holds the 1st concertmaster chair of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches chamber music at the Korean National University of Arts.
