Rafael Altino

The brasilian violis Rafael Altino has a bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston and a marer’s degree from the Juilliard school in New York. He has studied with Burton Fine, walter Trampler, Louis Krasner and Samuel Rhodes.

Mr. Altino is the 1.solo viola of the Odense Symphony,with whom he has performed the concertos of Bartok, Walton, Hindemith, as well as premiered two new concertos written for him by Karsten Fundal and Christian Lindberg. The composer Nils Søren Eichberg I preparing his third new concerto to be performed next season.

Rafael have been a member of the Arild String quartet, with whom he has made a recording for Dacapo with music of danish composer’s C.P.E. Horneman and Asger Hamerik, which has been very well received by the danish media. He has received a grant by the Brazilian government to make a recording with six new works written for him by composers of the northeast region of the country where he cames from as well.

In addition to his orchestral work, Rafael is a very after thought chamber musician, having playing with the Miró and Paizo string quartets and those musician as Antonio Meneses, Nikolaj Znajder, Claudio Bohorquez, Ettore Causa, Roland Pontinen, Catalin Rotaru among others. Mr. Altino teaches viola and chamber music at the Carl Nielsen Academy of music in Odense and at Music Conservatory in Malmö.
