Sotiris Louizos
Critics have described Sotiris Louizos as "a most charismatic and imaginative artist of extremely rare gifts". He has emerged at the forefront of young Greek pianists and embraces a wide range of style and repertoire.
Sotiris was born on the beautiful Greek Island of Corfu and received his first piano lessons at the Conservatoire of Corfu where he also studied harmony, counterpoint and composition. Later on, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire of Thessaloniki with Milena Mollova (professor at the State Academy of Sofia and pupil of the legendary Emil Gilels), acquiring the Diploma in Piano Performance with high distinction and first prize.In September 2000 he began studies at the Ionian University with pianist Elena Mouzala.
He has studied under distinguished musicians such as Paul Badura Skoda, Jean-Francois Heisser, Maxim Moguilewsky, Joaquin Sorianno,William Aide, Martino Tirimo and others. In the summer of 2003 he was awarded a scholarship by the Ionian University where he took part in the Master class of the French pianist Jean-Franηois Heisser, while in September of the same year he participated in the International Master classes of the Vienna Academy with professor Andrzej Jasinki.
Sotiris, who has won several national and international competitions, has given many concerts in important venues worldwide (Athens,Paris Vienna, London, Spain, Sofia etc.). He enjoys performing solo and chamber music. His most recent engagements icludes solo recitals in London and the Thessaloniki Megaron of music, and concertos with the "Orchestra de Extremadura" of Spain under Jesus Amigo and the "Camerata" in the Athens Megaron under Yang Yang.
In May 2004 he participated in the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition that took place at the Megaron, Athens Concert Hall, organized by Her Royal Highness Princess Irene of Greece, winning first prize and a scholarship from the International Foundation "World in Harmony" (Mundo en Armonia) of Madrid.
He completed his studies (BMus, MMus) course, with an honorary scholarship from Trinity College, where he studied with professor Yonty Solomon, who has described Sotiris as "an immensely talented and creative musician who possesses a fine pianistic command technically, producing a kaleidoscopic range of colours in his playing, a sensitive orchestration of textures and perceptive melodic phrasing".
His future plans include many concerts and recitals around the world, teaching and the recording of his first album.
