Stephan Picard
Stephan Picard had his first violin lessons at the age of ten with Gustav Mikulai in Bonn-Bad Godesberg. He studied as a junior student at the Folkwang Academy in Essen, where he was taught by Prof. Sascha Gawriloff. He then went to the Musikhochschule Freiburg, where he studied with Prof. Wolfgang Marschner. In 1982 he was granted his performer's diploma at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover with Prof. Rami Shevelov. Further studies led him to Prof. Valery Gradov in Essen, Prof. Stefan Georghiu in Bucharest and Prof. Roman Nodel in Hannover. From 1987-88 he completed his postgraduate studies with Prof. Roman Nodel at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Heidelberg-Mannheim. He was a prizewinner in the national "Jugend musiziert" competition, the international Maria Canals violin competition in Barcelona, Spain, and the Premio Rodolfo Lipizer in Gorizia, Italy. He was also a prizewinner and gained a scholarship in the German Music Competition. In 1985/86 he was a participant in the 29th national competition Konzerte Junger Künstler. Numerous solo performances and chamber music concerts as well as radio and TV recordings followed. In 1988 Stephan Picard became first concertmaster of the Aachen City Orchestra. From 1989-93 he held a teaching position at the Cologne Academy of Music (Aachen branch), and in 1991 he became professor at the Detmold Academy of Music (Münster branch). In 1992 he moved to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, and in 1995 he was appointed Professor of Violin at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin.
