Thanassis Apostolopoulos
Thanassis Apostolopoulos has nowadays established himself as one of the leading Greek pianists of his generation. His career has already led him to a large part of Europe (England, France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Poland), the USA and the Middle East and venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Koelner Philharmonie, the "Konzerthaus" in Vienna or the “Palais des Beaux-Arts” in Brussels, to constant critical acclaim and enthusiastic reviews.
He has performed as a soloist with such orchestras and ensembles as, among others, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras, the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, the NDR Radiophilharmonie - Hannover, the Torino Philharmonic, the Athens Camerata, the Guerzenich Kammerorchester, the Hellenic Radio-Television Orchestra, the Basel Sinfonietta or the Nash Ensemble.
He is also much in demand as a chamber musician and song accompanist, both in his home country and abroad, performing in several of Europe’s major venues, including the Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Halls, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Athens Festival), the "Musikhalle" in Hamburg, the Birmingham Symphony Hall or the BFM Hall in Geneva.
Born in 1968 in Athens, Greece, he studied piano in his home city with Aris Garoufalis (First Prize, Athens Conservatoire 1990). He has worked further in London with Russian pianist Irina Zaritskaya as well as in Salzburg and Paris with Germaine Mounier, through scholarships by the British Council, the Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the French Government. He is a laureate of the “Al. Roussel” International Piano Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In addition to a wide repertoire of solo, concerto and chamber music, he is an exponent of Greek music of the 20th century through live performances and recordings, both in his home country and abroad. Many of the leading Greek composers have entrusted him with world premieres and performances of their works.
