Yiannis Kassetas

Yiannis Kassetas has been working as a saxophone player ,piano player and composer from the age of 18.He has played in almost every jazz festival and club in Greece and has collaborated with many of the giants of the Greek music scene [George Kontrafouris,Dimitris Vasilakis etc.].His composing abilities and his unique style made him the only saxophonist with three personal cd's in one of the best Jazz Labels in Athens,puzzlemusik [before his teacher D.Vassilakis].He has also toured and recorded with international Jazz Giants Clarence Penn,Miles Griffith,Jason Yarde and others.

Jack Walrath [trumpetist for Charles Mingus Band] says:"Yiannis Kassetas writes challenging, interesting, original and unpredictable COMPOSITIONS as opposed to mere tunes".

Yarde says about Yiannis composing abilities:"His music is beautiful and evocative..".Griffith has also expressed deep passion for the saxophone player's works and has been singing compositions of Kassetas every sunday at one of New Yorks finest Jazz Clubs,"the Smoke"!Recently his cd collaboration with drummer George Spanos was chosen from the NY Label "Blue Truffle" to distribute their album in the States and South America.

Kassetas is now in the mastering prosses of his new cd wich was recorded in Manhattan with some of NY finest jazz musicians.Soon he will present his new composing project "Moving Sound" wich has been created and directed by Dimitris Karalis and combines music and dance in a very unique way.[at Deree American College].
